Gerbera Daisies love the sun

Gerbera Daisy

Gerbera Daisies come in a wide variety of colors, from soft pastels to bright vibrant colors.

There is nothing like brightly colored flowers to brighten up your day.

The term Daisies is a term that we use for all flowers that has a general shape of a disk and ray flowers around it. It comes from the old English term for the sun – day’s eye. So the day’s eye, or the sun, became over time Daisy, that we use today. The ancestors of Gerbera Daisies are Native to South Africa and those species have been bred together to create wonderful hybrid Gerbera Daisies. They are short and stocky. The flowers occur as a mound over the plant and they have wonderful dark-green attractive leaves.

Gerbera Daisies love lots and lots of sun. So if buy this flower in the nursery during the winter, bring them home and put them on a bright sunny window sill.

Watering is important. When you water your Gerbera Daisies you don’t want to keep them to wet or they will root rot. So feel the soil frequently. When it feels dry about an inch deep (2cm) that is a good time to water. Do not keep them too wet.

In the spring time about April or May you can move your Daisies outside. Keep them in containers or even plant them in the ground on a sunny bed where they will produce flowers for you on and off through the summer
